A Dialog on Local weather Change, Catastrophism, and Illiberalism

Share

Local weather change appears to impress intolerant reactions from each Proper and Left. The previous falls prey to know-nothingism in its efforts to disclaim the existence of an issue that will justify a governmental response. The latter’s tendency to catastrophize local weather change fosters assist for intolerant responses. Neither is a productive response to a major problem.

This concern was the main focus of a panel on which I participated on the ISMA‘s inaugural Liberalism for the 21st Century conference this previous July. Becoming a member of me on the “Local weather Change: Liberal Options” panel was Nils Gilman of the Berggruen Institute, Joseph Majkut of CSIS, and Sluggish Boring editor Matt Yglesias. The video is beneath.

An edited transcript (omitting the Q&A) can also be accessible here.
