After trying to console Dunk, who’s anxious the dialog was “ill-handled,” Egg adjustments the topic to knighthood. We have copied the ensuing, hilarious alternate under, in full:

Egg: “Do you assume I am going to ever make a knight at some point?”

Dunk: “Certain. Why not? You are a probable lad.”

Egg: “I am a bit puny.”

Dunk: “You may develop.”

Egg: “Even for my age. Everybody’s all the time advised me so.”

Dunk: “Everybody’s all the time advised me I used to be silly.”

[Massive pause while Dunk sips his drink, not saying anything else.]

Egg: “And?”

Dunk: “Hm?”

Egg: “Hm, what?”

Dunk: “What?”

Egg: “What did you do when individuals stated you had been silly, ser?”

Dunk: “What enterprise is that of yours? My issues are my very own.”

Egg: “I believed… Aren’t you making an attempt to assist me?”

Dunk: “Assist you what? Develop?”

It is a fully beat-perfect alternate, from Egg’s exasperated “And?” to Dunk’s full confusion that follows it. This sort of dialog can be why the present, and Dunk and Egg as characters, are so deeply lovable — we are going to by no means tire of seeing a small baby rising more and more pissed off along with his giant, well-meaning companion’s complete lack of knowledge.
