An Illinois wrestling officiant cannot proceed with defamation claims in opposition to Texas-based sports activities media workers who allegedly made posts on social media that took situation with video footage of youth wrestlers that ended up on vulgar web sites, a federal judge recently ruled.
U.S. District Choose Steven C. Seeger of the Northern District of Illinois granted a movement to dismiss the claims lodged in opposition to the livestreaming sports activities service, FloSports, and two of its workers, Christian Pyles and Jon Kozak. The defendants, all backed by attorneys with Clean Rome in Chicago, claimed the courtroom lacked private jurisdiction over defamation claims introduced by an Illinois plaintiff, Nima Gharavi, in March 2024. Gharavi claimed the defendants led an effort to defame him in social media posts after footage he shared from youth wrestling matches allegedly confirmed up on pornographic web sites, the opinion stated.
