The U.S. Division of Agriculture has introduced $5 million in grants to help Tribal college students at land-grant faculties and universities via the New Starting for Tribal College students (NBTS) Program.
The announcement was made by Secretary Tom Vilsack on the 2024 White Home Tribal Youth Discussion board held late final week.
“These USDA investments reinforce our dedication to empowering Tribal Nations by cultivating tomorrow’s agriculture sector professionals and constructing a USDA workforce extra consultant of America,” stated Vilsack. “It can be crucial that USDA continues to uplift Tribal communities and gives pathways of illustration by working with universities and faculties to enhance the lives of Native American college students and communities via greater schooling.”
The USDA Nationwide Institute of Meals and Agriculture’s (NIFA) New Beginning for Tribal Students (NBTS) program was created to assist improve the retention and commencement fee of Tribal college students attending 1994, 1862, and 1890 land-grant universities. The 15 funded awardees are: Cankdeska Cikana Group Faculty; Colorado State College; Montana State College; Oregon State College; Regents of the College of Idaho; Salish Kootenai Faculty; South Dakota State College; College of Alaska Fairbanks-Kuskokwim Campus; College of Alaska Fairbanks-Northwest Campus; College of Arkansas; College of Maine; College of Nevada Reno; College of Wyoming; and Utah State College (two awards).
